This week we were pleased to introduce our new Student Leaders to our school community. Congratulations to James and Iulisa on their appointment as Head Boy and Head Girl. They are supported by a Clerk to the Student Council, and a team of Senior and Junior Prefects. The student leaders are eager to get started on a variety of projects, including becoming trained "Anti-Bullying Ambassadors", ready to lead our whole school anti-bullying campaign. Iulisa, our new Head Girl said "I am delighted to be the Head Girl at The Ebbsfleet Academy, and I am looking forward to meeting the challenges of my new role and being the students' voice"
This week The Ebbsfleet Academy are highlighting Deaf Awareness Week. Did you know that: - There are 50,000 children with hearing loss across the UK - There are 11 million people with hearing loss across the UK - At least 24, 000 people in the UK use British Sign Language (BSL) as their main language - Lip-reading helps deaf people to understand what others are saying, but even the best lip-readers still miss up to 40% of what has been said. During this week, in school we will be raising awareness and challenge perceptions of hearing loss and deafness across the UK. #deafawareness #DAW2021
The Ebbsfleet Academy were delighted to welcome Paralympic athlete, Tim Prendergast to the school last week for the grand opening of their new outdoor gym. The outdoor gym was made possible by a generous donation from Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and is a fantastic addition to the facilities at the Academy. Gurjit Kaur Shergill, Principal, said "The outdoor gym will bring huge benefits to both the physical and mental wellbeing of our students. It is lovely to see our students taking advantage of using the equipment during breaks as well as during their PE lessons." Paralympic Gold Medallist Tim Prendergast said "One thing the last twelve months has taught us all is the absolute importance of our own mental, physical and social wellbeing. The generosity of EDC coupled with the determination of the school has enabled this project to take place and the outdoor gym to become a crucial part of the fabric of the school. For me it was sport and physical activity that unlocked a spark in me that enabled me to fulfil many of my own personal aspirations, I really hope that facilities such as the new outdoor gym help to inspire, motivate and energise the students of Ebbsfleet Academy to become the very best versions of themselves.' #beinspired #paralympic #Ebbsfleetdevelopmentcorporation
