Summer School 2021

“Body, Mind, Expression and Creativity”

This opportunity was an integral part of our transition package and, in addition, the summer school provided an opportunity for:

  • Students to recover missed learning and development
  • Improving physical and mental health, wellbeing and educational engagement
  • Support of disadvantaged and vulnerable students
  • Aid transition for our new Year 7 students through forging relationships with new teachers and familiarising themselves with their new school.

During the week 9th – 13th August our incoming Year 7 cohort attended our transition summer school. The students participated in a full programme of activities throughout the week which enabled them to discover a sense of enjoyment through active new sports, including archery and skipping workshops, learn the practical skill of cooking to aid wellbeing, learn to express themselves through drama and engage in creative forms of literacy and numeracy to enhance their love of learning.

The school received funding from GOV.UK at a total of £10,594. This funding was used to provide 80 of our incoming 115 students a bespoke academic and enrichment programme.

40% of those that attended were Pupil Premium students.

The Summer School was highly successful. Students produced excellent work throughout the week and the feedback from students was highly positive with all stating they felt more confident about their transition between primary to secondary school education.
